As I travel in Guatemala this Holy Week, my eye notices all the beautiful flowers in this tropical mountainous area of Central America. Seeing God's creativity in color, texture and style,
I ask, "which flower are you?"
God makes us all unique, yet made in His image. How can this be? God is big! He is powerful! He is all-knowing, and oh, so creative! He forms each person with unique DNA. Only our great God could do that!
Why would God do that? Because He has great love for us, He made each of us with a purpose here on earth. The Psalmist says, “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field." Psalm 103:15
God made us to flourish! This Easter weekend, we do remember that Jesus died sacrificially on the Cross, bearing our sin & shame, so that we can be forgiven and restored to our Heavenly Father forever in eternity. That was part of Jesus' purpose. Amazing Grace! But we also know that Jesus flourishes because He is Risen!
As we celebrate Resurrection Sunday, let us reflect on what Jesus knew - what Jesus did - ask God to show you deep inside, "which flower are you?"
Mike and I are in Guatemala on a mission trip. Volcano Agua is pictured here. Since it is Holy Week, people here create beautiful "carpets" made of fresh flowers, colorful sawdust and more. Processions happen throughout the Lenten season, highlighting Jesus' crucifixion. I love to see such attention given to the Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord!
