I have a wise older friend - a retired US Marine Colonel. He has shared much truth with me since I met him a decade ago. I have urged him many times to write a book, because he expounds so passionately and eloquently on God’s Word. He always says, “NO” when I ask him. Instead, he says there are too many books in the world. People should read the Bible and obey that. I thought of him today, when reading this passage from Ecclesiastes 12:11-14, “The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh. The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” ESV The book has been written. Will we read it and live? |
