Ruth wanted to follow her mother in law, even though Naomi urged Ruth and her sister to return to their homeland of Moab, while Naomi determined to move back to her Israelite home of Bethlehem.
Ruth's response was emphatic, "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God." Ruth 1:16
I had this Scripture reference engraved on the inside of my wedding band, when I married Michael 35 years ago. The future was unknown, but I chose to follow God and my husband. That was the only agenda, really. Because we cannot see what's around the bend in our lives.
Ruth had no agenda, either, except to be loyal to her mother in law. She reminds me of Abraham, who faithfully obeyed his God.
God honored her innocent loyalty, by blessing her with Boaz, who became her 2nd husband. This union resulted in the birth of Obed, Jesse, and then King David. Who knew?! Ruth became one of only 3 women mentioned in Jesus' lineage. What an honor. And what a lady!
I want to follow God and have only His agenda for my life.
May we all be more like Ruth, and know God's blessings in our lives.
Thanks for being loyal sons & daughters for the Kingdom.
Happy Mother's Day, Moms!
